The ANENA (National Association for the Study of Snow and Avalanches) is running its Avalanche Days this autumn. The days will be held on the 7th November in Briançon, 21st November in Toulouse and the 5 December in Nice. They are aimed at all winter sports enthusiasts : walkers, climbers, free-riders, ski tourers and ice climbers who want to extend their knowledge of winter conditions in the mountains.
The talks, given by high mountain guides, weather experts, trainers and rescue workers are both the practical and interactive. They will not only improve your knowledge but provide tools and methods for anyone who is confronted by the risk of avalanches in the mountains.
The Avalanche Days are in collaboration with the Briançon section of the French Alpine Club (CAF), Météo-France, the PGHM (French Mountain Police Rescue Service), le SNGM (Syndicat National des Guides de Montagne), the Ministry of Ecology.
You can register on the ANENA’s web site (see below). Registrations before the 30th of October 2009 cost 20 Euros. There is a reduced tarrif of 15 euros for under 18’s, students, unemployed, ANENA members. You can also enrol on the day at a cost of 25 euros and subject to the number of seats available.
