In June 2008, renowned French Mountain Guide and extreme skier, Rémy Lecluse is inviting a small group of recreational skiers & mountaineers to join him on a one-of-a-kind adventure – the opportunity to ski the first descent of a 6000m peak in the Peruvian Andes. Rémy has notched up over 500 extreme descents, including 45 first descents in the Alps, Atlas Mountains, Lyngen Alps, Himalayas & Andes. He is one of very few guides who takes clients on extreme slopes (including 10 first descents). For this trip Rémy has chosen the remote and rarely climbed Yayamari (6049m) in the Cordillera Vilcanota range in Peru. It is a mountain that has probably only been climbed twice before, the last time in 1983.
Rémy’s proposed route of ascent and descent is the NW route which is technically similar to a Mt Blanc ascent (via the Gouter ridge) with a maximum gradient of 35°-40°. As such the trip is suitable for anyone with previous ski touring experience - Haute Route, Ski Mont Blanc or similar - and familiarity with basic mountaineering skills.
The total duration of the trip is 21 days (29 May – 19 June 2008) and the approach trek to Yayamari follows part of the classic trek around Ausangate and is ideal for acclimatization. The route goes through altiplano & remote villages. The views of the high mountains & lakes are breathtaking. The Cordillera Vilcanota remains a very isolated and remote place where the local Quechua Indians are dressed in traditional clothes & speak local dialects. This is truly a wonderful opportunity to take part in a fantastic one-off adventure.
