Skitouren app
Interesting iPhone app with a strong Austria/Italian emphasis, probably because that’s where the developer is based. But, it’s very enjoyable to read and has potential

Surely this has to be the first and only dedicated Ski Touring app!

Well done Bruno Mandolesi

Hello,

I’ve just read DECAL post about our ski application. Its name is Ski Challenge - Prove it.
Our aim is to create the first social media device for European riders.
A new version has been released and you can now view maps of different ski resort.
Other useful features are available: we have just added an emergency call button, to reach the closest assistance services in just one click.

You can download it for free on the App Store

Just new here and was reading about ski apps.

Surprised no one has mentioned Satski from Satsports.  I think they’re doing it for iPhone now - not sure - I use it on my Android which has good GPS even when I don’t have a phone signal.

Anyway they have hundreds of ski resort maps - Europe, North America, Japan, New Zealand, Australia.

It has navigation that I haven’t seen in other apps, but I use it for my stats - it’s always pretty close to my Garmin stats.

Anyway, check it out - looks like they have a couple of websites - Euro & America?

Now if we only had some snow… happy skiing!

Hi everybody, happy to join you on this forum.

There is an interesting new iPhone application, named ”PowFinder”, on the appstore provided by the SALOMON ski brand.

This is a new iPhone application designed to provide accurate new snow forecasts, instant access to resort information and links. People who already got this app can share their own reports and local observations after a ski day, with the conditions observed and snow quantity and quality details.

I think this new application seems to be very interesting to get recent snow informations coming from a skiers’ community.

SportyPal is available for almost all major phone models with GPS in it.
http://www.sportypal.com/download here you can check the list of the phones. In the new version there is the autopause option with which you don’t need to manually stop/pause the application when you are going uphill.

Bazi - your Q about being able get maps etc without needing wifi to download an “app”
Yes, but I’ll have to directly plug our mobile website to tell you about it!

We launched http://www.SNO.mobi last year and it’s grown really fast
It puts the whole ski resort in your pocket (live cams, piste maps, apres ski bars/restaurants, ski schools, mountain guides, resort and summit conditions - even taxis and baby sitters!)

What?
- Unlike an “app”, our mobile ski resort guide works on ALL phones (its a website).
- mobile website is designed with tiny data size, so you won’t come home to big roaming data bill
(average web page is around half a meg, ours is around 40kb!)
- we have the large maps and also cut-downs that are better for mobile screen size
(ie not merely the usual massive area map that identikit apps have, also individual ski areas)
- we promote the local resort businesses totally free of charge (ie we put them in literally everyone’s pocket) so tell anyone you know to email me and I’ll make sure we add their ski biz

We based it on “old fashioned cooperation” so we’ll never charge the local ski schools and bars etc to be on there - the idea is to make it easy for skiers/boarders to find and support the locals, who make mountain communities the fabulous places we all love to visit.

Plug over - this is a ski resort guide, so doesn’t do things like record your daily vertical or top speed - the idea is to create something as great as eg Chamonet, but in your pocket, and for all ski resorts!
We’ll keep funding it from the sale of ski holidays (our main business).
Last week we won the Digital Entrepreneur Award for category Travel Entrepreneur Dead Cert’ - v. chuffed

(NB: site has “device detection” so you need to view it on a phone, or you’ll be sent to the desktop site - you can try it out on your PC by clicking in the demo-phone at http://www.sno.co.uk/mobile/web/ )

hope thats a useful answer
cheers

Hi all
If it’s ski technique tips your after on your iPhone, then have a look at ‘Ski School’ app: http://www.skischoolapp.com/
This seems to be the best ski technique app I can find. Great HD video clips you can watch on the chairlift (downlaod via wifi first though!).
Free version available, then choose the one for your level of skiing (£3.99).
Shame there is no expert level one yet, but it does look really good quality.

Thanks for mentioning our apps freshtracks (The Ski School apps). We’ve had great feedback since launching the apps in October.

If anyone has any questions or suggestions do give me a shout!

We have released a free mapping app for skiers few months ago. It works on iPhone and Android.

http://www.maprika.com

The app is completely free, no ads or hidden fees.
Here is what it does for you:
- shows your location on an easily readable “paper-like” map of ski area
- shows where your friends are, if they are also using the app
- lets you add new maps and share them with community
- if your position is shown incorrectly, you can fix it easily and improve the map for future
- the more people using Maprika, the quicker we progress adding new maps and improving existing ones. We have more than 400 maps at the moment

Please check it out and let us know what you think!

I have tried the SkiMaps iPhone app and think its pretty good but does anyone know of any resort guide apps? I found a one called Ski Resorts Maps App which is free and locates points of interest around the ski resort you are staying in but was curious to know if anyone uses something similar?
