Watching some old videos of training rides around Lac du Bourget made me fancy riding around the lake again.

It felt ambitious for early season—just over 100 km on the bike but the route had a certain logic to it: two halves of roughly 50 km, stitched together by a single, steady climb of more than 1,000 met

Nice climb this morning but got lost in Quarno Sopra before finding the road to Camasca - very hard in places, it must be around 18-20% max, chain was making a nasty noise.

Rode to the end of the road at Alpe Busca this year. There is no real view from the top - a small shrine with a fountain of very pleasant water, just mountains.

The idea was to take the road above Luzzogno towards Alpe Busca as far as it is surfaced. But I was unsure of the route above Luzzogno so took the Inuggio road instead.

I'd never cycled up to Scareno before and to be honest, there isn't much reason to. It is a long way up a big of a rough road.

A long ride up the valley from Omegna on a road that gets steeper and steeper. There is a cafe at the end. Monti Capello is the trail head for walks into the mountains. Road is not too busy.

This challenging climb begins in the center of Omegna. Following the lake initially you traverse the hamlet of Cireggio.

Barry had never done a 100 miler. I don't make a habit of them but I had an idea of something that would not be too hard climbing wise.
