I had initially considered heading up to Chamechaude, the highest summit in the Chartresue, but the avalanche bulletin (Thursday and Friday), combined with poor visibility and continued strong winds

I parked in the new parking lot. It took me 5 minutes to find snow. Some people parked at the Betta or even higher but in theory it is banned to use the road before the 31 March.

I kind of hoped against evidence to find better ski conditions.

Afternoon tour with Tot to the Canaple. We were looking for something safe (it was risk 3 > 1600m) and this fits the bill.

DangersThe North East slope is suspended above high cliffs.

From the Pont des Cottaves (1111m) follow a trail on the right bank of the river to a clearing at 1150m (bottom of an old chair lift) then turn slightly SW to follow a ski piste that crosses the Charm

We ruled out south aspect slopes due to the poor weather forecast and the risk of crust, that seems like a good move.

After a bit of XC skiing I toured from the Col de Porte pistes to the bottom drag then continued down the path at the end.

A Jasse "by fair means" in other words taking the mountain bike from home to the snowline then skiing from there. 2350 meters of climbing in total.

From the Desert drag lift follow a track (vallons piste) through the Pres de Clos to pt 1448m then climb up the Grande Montage slopes to the ridge. You can check out the couloirs from here.
