Two climbers killed by Avalanche
Two climbers were caught by an avalanche while they were climbing a frozen waterfall this afternoon at 2,600 meters altitude close to Monetier-les-Bains in the Hautes-Alpes. The bodies of the two men were found in the early evening by the rescue services. They were taken to Briançon.

Pisteur Killed at Pra Loop
A pisteur has been killed by an avalanche in the Pra-Loup ski station (Hautes-Alpes). Joël Proal, 38 years old, had been wearing an avalanche transceiver and his body was found by a member of the Jausiers section of the PGHM. The victim died from cardio-respiratory arrest, according to the initial medical reports. He was part of a group who were securing the ski domain by controlled avalanche release when he was hit by a secondary slide. The alert was given at 10h15 and a team of sixty rescuers were quickly on the scene.

Five British Avalanche Rescue Dogs given to Chamonix
The British Ambassador to France, Sir Michael Jay, presented Chamonix High Mountain Police (PGHM) with five avalanche rescue dogs to thank them and the town for the aid given to British tourists and to pay tribute to the rescue worker’s courage during the difficult winter of 1999.
