Too Much Snow in the Pyrénées

Most of the Pyrenean resorts remained closed to outsiders over the weekend due to the recent extremely heavy snowfall.

At Piau there was 1m50 in the ski resort.  At Barèges / La Mongie an avalanche hit a chalet and twenty cars in the car park.  Fortunately the chalet was empty at the time and there were no injuries.  Two people who were standing in the parking were buried but rapidly dug-out by the rescue services, shocked but unharmed.  The avalanche measured 200 meters wide.

Another avalanche hit cars in the Plat d’Adet sector of the St Lary ski station, there were no reports of causalities.
