Skier Caught in Les Arcs Avalanche

A group of four skiers holidaying in Vallandry were caught by an avalanche while skiing off-piste in the afternoon in the Combe des Lanchettes sector of les Arcs 2000.

One of the skiers was buried by the slide but was dug-out by two of his companions in less than 10 minutes thanks to avalanche transceivers, shovels and probes.  Another member of the group descended to the station to summon help.  The Mountain Police (PGHM) arrived from Courchevel and took the skier to hospital in Bourg-Saint-Maurice where he was treated for a fractured leg.
