Ski Mountaineer killed by Montgenèvre Avalanche

A ski tourist was killed by an avalanche on Friday 10th January in la combe de Chamberton close to the ski resort of Montgenèvre in the Hautes Alpes department.  Kairn news gave his name as 33 year old Raphaël Borgis, one of the areas best ice mountaineers.  He was skiing with two other people. 

The passage of the skiers at 3,000 meters altitude triggered a wind slab avalanche that finished 700 meters lower down.  The avalanche risk was 3.

A ski tourist has been killed by an avalanche in the Courchevel sector of the Trois Vallees ski domain and a ski instructor, part of a group of 5 was killed while skiing off-piste close to the Cote Brune chair in the Méribel sector of the same area on Thursday (9/1/2003)
