Road gap Galibier 2006 vintage

ALCHIMY association is once again running its Road Gap but the event is not just about launching yourself over a 20 meter gap high above the 2645 meter Galibier road pass. For people who enjoy the park, which is open to all, there will be a series of big and small kickers, rails and other modules and if you just want to watch a bbq at midday.  A huge concert is scheduled for Saturday night down in the ski resort of Valloire.

The Road Gap will be held on the weekend of the 27-28th of May. The actual competition is on Sunday afternoon. This is a couple of weeks later than normal. The reason being the very good conditions at high altitude. There was a large amount of snow during March and the sector needs to be made safe – regulars on PisteHors will remember that a pedestrian was killed by an avalanche on the Galibier a few days after the event. The piste services from Valloire have already been up on the Galibier pass with a piste basher making preparations – or where they just skiing?

The road gap for this year has unfortunately been cancelled. The original dates were dictated by the Highways Department who did not want to open the route before the 27th. Due to the warm weather and rapid melt the road will now open 1 week earlier on the 20th. Unfortunately the organisers of the Road Gap (Alchimy and cie) were not able to change their authorisations for the event along with bookings for skiers and DJs so they were force to cancel.

Of course, if you head up on the 20th don’t be surprised if you see some skiers whizzing over your head!
