La Grave Extends Opening to 8th May

The recent snowfall at altitude has permitted the off piste domain of La Grave to extend the opening of its DMC lift to the 8th of May. The lift company suggests that as well as enjoying excellent spring skiing it is a great opportunity for paragliders to enjoy some thermals and spectacular views of the region’s glaciers or for foot passengers to take in the views and chill out from valley temperatures which are in the (very) high 20s today.

The lift company points out that they are, as usual, the last lift operating south of Val Thorens. You can currently ski ffrom the dôme de la Lauze à 3600m to the intermediate station at 2400 m. The vallons de Chancel are feasible with 20 minutes walk - a bucolic excursion amongst the flora surrounding the P1 station. We were skiing yesterday, and despite some very strong sun and high temperatures the spring skiing was excellent above 2000 meters so this looks like a great opportunity to get in some lift-served turns.
