Corsican Haute Route Search Ends Tragically

The ground search for Jean-Pierre Etienne, a ski mountaineer from mainland France, missing on the Corsican Haute Route since the 16th of April, intensified over the weekend with the aid of helicopter reconnaissance.  At 15h00 on Sunday afternoon a team of rescue workers aided by civilians heard the barking of the skier’s dog, Pyrenean sheep dog called Lola, on the slopes of Monte d’Oro.  The body was found in a hard to access crevasse.  The authorities believe the cause of death was accidental.

The man was last seen around midday on the 16th of April.  The rescue services were alerted on the 21st when his son become worried that his father hadn’t returned from his trip.  Pascal Etienne arrived in Corsica at the weekend with friends of the missing man to help with the search.
