Body of Skier Missing 7 Years Found

The body of Joseph Rosenberg, a 71 year old Grenoble man missing since February 1998, has been found in the Glacier des Rognons by a climber. M. Rosenberg disappeared while skiing off-piste in the Grands Montets area. An extensive search at the time failed to find the missing skier.

The recovery team thinks he fell into a fairly shallow crevasse. The body was found at an ice-fall on the glacier, it had almost certainly been carried some distance from the point of disappearance. The winter snows of the Grands Montets area, a favourite with off-piste skiers, hide many crevasses. It is dangerous to venture off the marked trails without a guide or detailed local knowledge.
