Details are a bit sketchy but it appears a German climber has been killed descending from the aiguille du Chardonnet at 18h00 on Saturday afternoon by an small avalanche. The climber was knocked off his feet by a small snow slide and taken 200m over cliffs. The climber was with a friend who was unharmed. There was considerable fresh snow (40cm at altitude) in the range in the middle of last week followed by warm temperatures. Excluding this incident there have been 28 deaths so far this season, slightly below the long term average.
