A 36 year old skier was serious injured by an avalanche triggered by a cornice collapse in one of Hohneck couloirs in the Vosges on Friday. The ski tourer, from nearby Gerardmer, was descending from the summit of the Rainkopf with a friend. Carried over 200 meters he suffered serious fractures to his lower body but was not completely buried by the slide. The PGM from Munster heliported him to hospital in Colmar. There has been a lot of snowfall in the area over the last few days.
