Frozen porkers provoke protests

A plan to use 29 pigs to test the survivability of avalanche victims has provoked storms of protest from animal rights groups. The Innsbruck medical faculty and the Casualty Center in Bolzen plan to bury 29 sedated porkers in the Ötz valley to see how air pockets affect the survival chances of avalanche victims.

According to Hermann Brugger (he of the Brugger curve) 20% of avalanche victims have an airpocket. He thinks researchers can use this experience to develop new treatments to help save lifes.

Animmal rights groups have told Brugger “to bury himself under snow and let his colleagues see what the effect is”.

Anyway I’ll have a bacon sandwich if there is any free pork going. Hope they take a BBQ

I am all for not using the pigs. They don’t choose to ski off piste that is for damn sure, and we do enough horrid things to them on factory farms as it is. Learn to avoid avalanches, and forget niggling details about how fast you die if there is or is not an air pocket etc. - this is not even what I would call medical research, more like nazi experimentation on live creatures. Ick. Also a sedated pig ... how does that compare anyhow to a real live and panicked victim. Not well I should think. Cruel, and unecessary. And yes, before you ask, I am a vegetarian.
