The col du Galibier has been closed due to fresh snow and heavy goods vehicles have had trouble negociating the col du Lauteret. A ‘retour de l’est” has brought 40cm to the mountains on the border with Italy. The pistes at Vars are already looking quite wintry with 20cm in the village and 35cm at altitude. The fresh snow has fallen on frozen ground.
