A few of us are flying into Geneva on Sunday 11th Janaury.
Can anyone advise as regards Train availability on Sundays etc(we are returning on the friday)
Or, if in fact you can get a train direct to Chamonix ?...Bus ?
Or,is it just easier to hire a car ?
Any advice would be appreciated
Cheers Guys

The train would be a fiddly journey. There are plenty of minibus services shuttling between Chamonix and Geneva, and they have listings on the Chamonix websites. A car would be useful in Chamonix as the bus service can get over subscribed, but cheap or free parking for visitors can be hard to find. I have always found it useful to have a car in Chamonix, especially to visit Le Tour or Argentiere.

Andy Cleaver springs to mind: http://www.act-chamonix.com/booking.asp

although reports suggest that service has suffered a bit as he has expanded. I think it is worth confirming your trip with any of these services the night before and make sure you print any booking reference you get on the Web.

Here is another alternative: http://www.alpybus.com/home

I’m not sure the “public transport” service from Geneva is much cheaper and as Bandit says, trains are fiddly, especially on a Sunday. You need to change at St Gervais and probably at somewhere like la Roche or Annemasse as well as in Geneva for the airport train. I checked on the SNCF.com website and they list no trains, just a six hour bus journey. Nightmare.

My friend works for Cham-Van, it seems like a good service

its 40 euros for a lift to your doorstep, but the drivers are known to bargain.
