A little trip yesterday between a meeting and some work. I basically drove up the forest roads until I reached the snowline at 1500 meters then climbed to a summit in the 7 Laux backcountry. Here you can see the 7 laux ski domain
The snow canons were working and they had pisted the fresh, obviously planning another sneaky opening. There was about 5cm of fresh at 1500m and 10cm at 2000m. You could find a base from 1550 meters but uneven and still not fully frozen under the fresh. Ski conditions were excellent above 2000 m with firm base and 10cm of fresh.
Descent by my secret bowl, no-one ever skis here
Some old ruins
Just to the ride is the summit of the “Cul de Pet” (bottom fart) and below is the Col de Merdaret (shitty pass!). Actually a Merdaret is where animals have left lots of poo and this is gathered up to make fuel. There was a lake at the col de Merdaret in the past but the natural damn holding back the waters broke causing considerable damage in villages below.
The little lumps under the snow are shrubs. There is about 50cm of snow depth here.
