Skins collecting snow

I’m just looking for some tips on what I can do to my skins.  The last two times i’ve been out on them the wet, mild snow has started to collect on the skins, mostly directly underfoot.  A few whacks with a ski pole can sort it for a little while and luckily so far its not caused major trouble as we’ve only been out trying to get some fitness…

Should I rub the skin with a candle to try and wax it? or should I buy some proper skin wax? or something else?

Colltex have a quick spray that I’ve used and they also sell an impregnating wax. I’ve used both and I think they work.

I’ve just bought some skin spray but have not tried it out yet.

Candle way is ok but I think you’ve got to do it before you skins get wet. It is basically waterproofing the skins.  Someone recently suggested a spray domestic cleaning product (pledge or something like that).

I’ve recently use the Colltex spray with I think is “just” Nikwax. Excellent results so far. I’ve used hard waxes in the past with less success.

Tip “don’t whack your ski with your carbon ski pole”, it’ll break and you’ll wish you hadn’t bothered.

Skin waterproofing liquid costs about 12€ and comes in a handy transportable bottle with buikt in applicator.. We use it regularly in Spring. Best applied before each outing in warm snow and reapplied en route if necessary. Some skins resist water better than others..

Many thanks to all,

I will try get some colltex or black diamond in an applicator spray or sponge to pre-treat my skins and see how it goes.  If I get small containers I’ll be able to take it in my backpack for on snow use when it gets bad.
