Spring 2011 snow conditions

I don’t think it has really rained properly in our neck of the mountains since December. We’ve had light rain but not water table replenishing stuff.

I really can’t remember when it last did rain, proper rain for more than an hour or so and more than a day.

The BBC had a moisture map http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-13338174 which tells the story. The local farmers have taken first cuts of hay but I wonder what the nutrient values of the grass is, not great I’d guess.

I’ve got to go to North Wales later in the week, it’s forecast snow at 800m and temperatures at 2’c. It’s 30’c here now and BBQ weather.

After the hottest and driest May for a century June has started with, Snow!!! Yes it’s true folks, the Jura has 20cm up top and snow from 1500 meters this morning. Will try and bring you some pics later.

snow down to around 2000m or so, we were just up at an alpage but it wasn’t quite as low as we were. I did take some photo’s but they’re mostly of cows.
