Some more predictions for the Spring and Summer from TVMountain/Meteo Chamonix. Not particuarly cheerful and to note that they have changed their minds about a wet summer. We are now in for the worst heatwave on record. Glaciers watch out. We have already had a near record January and February with very little rain in the Northern Alps, Massif Central and Pyrenees and things look only to get worse.

March 2008
Europe will be under the influence of a westerly airstream. The Alpes, especially the north will have some weather systems which will bring rain but also some large dumps. After this systems it will be a little colder but it won’t last. The month will be 70% sunny.

April 2008
A strong south-westerly airstream with some weather systems, perhaps thundery but above all warm. Days in the valleys and summits will be very mild with some noticeable highs. especially with the foehn. 80% sunshine.

May 2008
High pressure system for much of the month with hot stable weather. Lots of days at 30°. Some afternoon thunderstorms with 80% sunshine for the month.

June 2008
High pressure from Africa. Hot and very dry air with days above 30°. Sun for practically the whole month.

July 2008
The June sitation is static. We are under the influence of weak southerly airstreams and a high over the Sahara. It’s going to be 2003 all over again. Heatwave and drought.
