St Lary in the French Hautes-Pyrénées is currently finishing a new gondola lift which will double the capacity of cable car that was opened in 1957. The original cable car was built by Vincent Mir, uncle of the current mayor Jean-Henri Mir. Some of you may recognise the family name, Isabelle Mir (daughter of Vincent) won Silver at the Grenoble Olympics in the Woman’s downhill. She was given the backslang (verlan) nick name of Mirabelle.

The new lift will carry skiers the 840m vertical meters to the le Plat d’Adet in less than 10 minutes. Each cabin can hold 8 seated skiers and 10 standing. The cable length is 2.8km. The lift has a capacity of 1800 skiers/hour. The lift will replace a bus link.
