Ski Mountaineer killed by Montgenèvre Avalanche
A ski tourist was killed by an avalanche on Friday 10th January in la combe de Chamberton close to the ski resort of Montgenèvre in the Hautes Alpes department. Kairn news gave his name as 33 year old Raphaël Borgis, one of the areas best ice mountaineers. He was skiing with two other people.

We’re just back from our Winter break, a week’s off-piste skiing in Val d’Isere and Tignes. We spent the week with Alpine Experience, found time to see some old friends, sample some of Val’s excellent restaurants and even did some cross-country.

A group of four skiers holidaying in Vallandry were caught by an avalanche while skiing off-piste in the afternoon in the Combe des Lanchettes sector of les Arcs 2000.

Two ski tourist were injured, one seriously in an avalanche that occurred in the afternoon close to Arvieux-en-Queyras in the Hautes-Alpes department.

2 Snow Shoers Killed by Cornice Fall
Two snow shoers were killed after falling 400 meters when a cornice broke away above Méribel (Savoie), according to a spokesman for the Mountain CRS (Compagnie Républicaine de Sécurité). The accident occurred on the ridge above the glacier du Borgne on the Gébroulaz side at 3,042 meters altitude.

Snowboarder Killed by Avalanche in Pra Loup
A snow boarder was killed today by an avalanche near to the Alpes Maritimes resort of Pra Loup. Claude Sauze, a 60 year old retired schoolteacher and resident of Nice was on a closed piste in the Vallon de Chancelaye between the resorts of Allos la Foux and Pra Loup.

British Avalanche Victim Dies in Hospital
The British skier who was seriously injured on the 24th of December after being caught in an avalanche in the Mont Blanc massif died of his injuries on Saturday morning in hospital in Sallanches (Haute Savoie).

Grande Motte Cable Car Closed, Pal Arinsal Open
The Grande Motte cable car in Tignes will be closed until at least Christmas Eve (24th December). Marlène Bodar of the Societie de Telepherique de Grande Motte told Pistehors that accident was caused “by exceptional frost conditions at altitude on the 11th of November. A rapid thaw around mid-morning caused all ice to fall from the cables at once, this rapid unbalancing damaged both cables and cabins and lead us to suspend operations.”

Chamonix Mayor faces double manslaughter charge
Chamonix mayor, Michel Charlet, already indited for manslaughter for the Montroc avalanche faces the same charge for the Mont Blanc tunnel fire.
