Description

From the Col de Pré Long (1194 meters) take a forest path that joins the road at pt 1332 meters and from there to the parking la Souille at 1358 meters. A path cuts through the woods to the summer car park at le Clos (1485m). From here follow the track to the last right hand hair pin below the refuge du Mollard (there is a winter annexe). Follow the path to the Habert les Sabottes (1811m). Continue east to a ridge that joins the summit of Mont St Mury (2038).

Return by the same path, it is possible to ski more directly to the les Sabottes but watch out for brushwood. The WNW ridge from the summit direct to the Mollard is covered in brushwood and is only really skiable if there is a lot of snow due to small trees. Beware of cliffs if you descend this way. From the Mollard to le Clos it is possible to take some short cuts cutting through the woods but the SW facing slopes often lack snow at this altitude.

Comments on route: The forest trails may present some difficulties to inexperienced skiers, in which case it is possible to follow the road from the summer parking at le Close.

Access: Grenoble -> Domene -> St Mury Monteymond -> Pass in front of an impressive church direction Pre Long. You will need snow tires/chains for this road. Terminus at 1194m in winter.
