Col De La Faita

Hiking -> Routes -> Chartreuse -> Col de la Faita

Description

As you drive up the D30 you will see reservoirs on both sides of the road on a curve. Take the unsurfaced road to the left and park at 460m at le Manival. Follow the track on the right bank of the river Manival (usually dry in the summer). At 520 meters you enter the forest and a fork, take the left up the slope. At 670m a path leads to the left to St Ismier, continue up the mountain. At 750m the track joins a horizontal path. There is a signpost, take the right towards la Faita. After a traverse of about 300 meters you reach le Marsauze, take a left up a steep slope that zig-zags. At 860m you join the main la Faita path that leads to les Massons on the left. Take a right and follow the track to the col de la Faita.

At 1425 meters you reach a horizontal track that follows the ridgeline. You can follow this to right to the Bec Charvet at 1738 meters or to the left to Eimendras de Dessus (bivouak possible).

The Pleynon refuge can be reached at 2km to the north.

Trip Reports

6th August 2007

I took in the descent of the col de la Faita after traversing from the col de Porte behind Chamchaude. Very hot day but pleasant in the mountains. I didn't see anyone on the track and it got pretty hot below 750 meters although the woods were shaded. The upper part of the track was muddy in places with a lot of loose rock on the trail but otherwise a very good path.
