Hervé Gourdel a Nice based High Mountain Guide has been kidnapped on Sunday in Algeria by the group Jund al-Khilafa, allies of the Islamic State. In a video released by the group they have called for the French to withdraw from actions against IS in Iraq.
Hervé Gourdel was visiting the Kabylie region, 110km to the east of Algiers with local friends. His friends were also taken but released by the group. They had rented a chalet in the Djurdjura national park on Saturday. Kidnaps are common in the region, 80 Algerians have been kidnapped for ransoms in the last decade.
