Description

I wasn't free on the Monday so Chris and I decided on a short trip on Tuesday "faut de mieux". Objective the breche Nord du Ferrouillet which we can see clearly from our houses in the valley. Traverse to the Lac du Crop was icy. There was a very strong wind at the Lac du Crop, almost flattening us on the ground. and causing a lot of snow transport and purges at altitude. The couloir was hard snow in the center due to the number of skiers but powder on the banks. The descent via the north bowl was initially in wind blown powder which, unfortunately, just hid old frozen ski tracks. This morphed into challenging mush in the avalanche couloir. Followed by near piste conditions on the ski down the road. The track to the Pont de la Betta had been pisted for cross country skiing.

Weather: Strong southerly wind, mild. Lots of snow transport.
