Brit boarder killed by les Arcs avalanche

A British snowboarder had been killed in the Aiguille Grive sector while off-piste above Peisey-Nancroix with her brother. Peisey is part of the les Arc ski domain. The full depth avalanche, about 35 meters, was triggered as the boarders rode over the slope and carried the victim around 150 meters close to the Plan Bois chair The victim’s brother was not hurt.

The accident occured just after 13h00. The victim, named as Lorraine Dixon aged 35 and a resident of Cumbria, was not wearing an avalanche beacon. She was found in a state of cardio-vascular by an avalanche rescue dog after around 45 minutes under the snow and could not be revived by the rescue services.

The avalanche risk was Considerable (3/5) today in les Arcs and the bulletin had warned of a number of accumulations of snow especially on slopes sheltered from the recent north and west winds and advised great care to people going off piste. The risk is maintained for Wednesday especially above 2000-2400 meters.
