Pays Toy

Ski Areas > Pyrénées > Pays Toy

The Pays Toy area is situated in the central Pyrénées mountains. Local legend has it that the name originates from the Anglo-Norman occupation of the region during the hundred years war. The people of the valley are traditionally very short and were supposedly nicknamed "toys" by their English overlords. The area has a number of ruined castles which bear witness to the occupation. These days the British are welcomed. Pyrenean Mountain Tours run ski touring trips in the region.
