Description

From the crossroads at 863 meters (sign for Gex to the right) turn left (south) the road curves around to the right before turning left. There is a stream marked on the map and a forest track (not shown) climbes up a valley. Follow this, it crosses a horizontal track at 1000 meters then another trail 200 meters further up. From here climb as best you can through the woods, which are quite sparse, to exit the forest on a plateau around 1300 meters. Head towards the summit to the north-west, marked with a Pylon passing above the chalet Bévy (1400m) and following the slopes to reach the ridge line at point 1627 m to the south-west of the summit. There are a range of slopes from the north-east to to south-east depending on conditions and steepnees.

Good morning tour to see the sun rising over le Mont Blanc.

Trip Reports

20th December 2007

A small tour before work. There was a sea of clouds below 800m which stayed all day down in the valley. Not much snow below 900-950 meters afterwards a good covering of powder with some patches of freeze crust. Exiting the forest there was heavier powder on the flatter slopes and the slopes oriented towards the east-north-east. They don't see much sun this time of year. Elsewhere the snow was windblown or had a sun crust. Fantastic sun rise behind Mont Blanc at 8h15.

The route was clear to 863m afterwards it was ice covered. I managed to park at 900m.

No sign of avalanche activity but there was surface hoar in the woods and the snow was destructuring in the cold (-11C at the summit) weather, higher up.

    * Weather : Sunny, cold, cloud sea at 800 meters
    * Avalanche Risk: 1
    * Participants: Alone
