Refuge D Argentiere

Ski-Areas > Northern Alps > Haute-Savoie (74) > Mont-Blanc > Chamonix Mont Blanc > Refuge D Argentiere

The refuge d'Argentière is the first (or last) stop over on the Chamonix-Zermatt Haute Route and is very popular. Reservations are highly reccommended. Run by the French Alpine Club it has 140 beds in dormitories and is guarded non-stop from mid-March to the start of September. When guarded there is a restaurant but it is also possible to self-cater in the small kitchen on the ground floor of the refuge. There is a winter section with 60 beds.

It is situated on the right bank of the Argentière glacier at 2771 meters at the foot of the jardin de l'Aiguille d'Argentière ridge. The view from the balcony is splendid. The glacier can be reached from the summit of the Grands Montets by descending over the glacier des Rognons. The glaciers are crevasses and crevasse rescue gear is a must.

The refuge is equipped with a telephone.

Waypoint: N 45.9463°, E 07.0045°.
