Black Diamond KiloWatt

Gear > Ski > Freeride > Black Diamond KiloWatt

Described by Black Diamond a ski as stable as the Verdict but agile like the Havoc. In short, an all-mountain ski that you can take out with your eye's closed knowing that it will handle any conditions you will find on the hill. With a 95mm waist it is not skinny but at 3.5kg in 175cm it could also be an interesting tourer for telemark or AT use, as long as you are not following someone on skinny skis through 50cm of fresh pow! As with the other BD skis the large and rounded shovel will make fitting skins a pain and we wonder if they should have gone for some kind of special clip system such as those employed by Dynafit on the Free Touring skis.

Black Diamond KiloWatt

Overall the hardpack performance is not quite up to the Havoc, the skis really come into their own in deeper snow and mixed conditions and skiing. In short, a typical European day off-piste or in the backcountry.

Reviews

  • Prefers mid to long radius turns. Solid, the Kilowatt gives you confidence and allows you to ski fast, providing you are fit enough. Performant in difficult terrain such as steep couloirs on hard snow. For a technical skier who wont spend much time on piste but wants a ski for powder and crud. - Ski Labo
