Description

St Hilaire du Touvet is situated on the Plateau des Petites Roches in the French Chartreuse Mountains between Grenoble and Chambery. It has 10km of ski runs and 350 meters of vertical. The skiing is surprisingly interesting for a small ski area with a backdrop of the vast limestone walls of the Chartreuse. There is a picnic building, restaurant, ski hire and ski school at the bottom of the ski runs. The town has other restaurants. Cross country skiing is possible for good level skiers on the Ch. de Herses (officially you should access this from the Col de Marcieu). There is sledging for kids by the Tourist Office. The site is world renowned for paragliding. There is a protected ski touring route and some off piste skiing through the trees either side of the ski area.

Conditions

Good spring ski conditions. Pistes in excellent shape. The resort was relatively uncrowded considering it is the main French holiday period.
