Nordic Skiing: First chemin de l'Herse of the season. - 1,280 m. (4,200 ft)

Thu, 10 December 2020

Technical

Minimum altitude: 1,103 meters

Distance: 12.7 km

Slope Aspect: East

Vertical Climbed: 340 meters (1,116 feet)

Vertical Descended: 342 meters

Description

I'd heard the Chemin de l'Herse had been pisted at the weekend for cross country skiing. After my climb to l'Emeindras on Tuesday I was concerned it would be unskiable but it was much better than expected although not as fast as on bashed trails. I don't think I came here at all last season due to lack of snow.

Conditions

3-5cm of fresh snow that had been bashed a bit by the passage of skiers. About 20cm of base but in places this was a breakable crust in some places so either poles or skis could break through (see photos). A few stones on the bottom of the descent. As usual, walker foot prints all over the place.
